The original home was a classic heritage dwelling, rich in character and full of traditional details. Timber weatherboards, steep rooflines, and period features gave the house a strong presence, but the layout and access no longer met the needs of contemporary living.
While the structure remained in relatively good condition, the site presented clear challenges—limited off-street parking, no internal access to upper levels, and a lack of connection to outdoor spaces. Any upgrades would require a sensitive approach, balancing modern function with the responsibility of preserving the home’s historical value.
Proposed Design
The proposed design focused on enhancing the functionality of this heritage-listed home while respecting its original character. Key additions included a new triple garage, internal lift, and expanded outdoor living through carefully integrated decking.
Traditional weatherboards and classic detailing were retained and matched to ensure continuity, while new elements were designed to sit sensitively alongside the existing structure. The result is a clear separation between old and new, allowing the home’s heritage features to remain the focal point.
The consenting process required close collaboration with Heritage advisors, ensuring the design met both modern standards and heritage expectations.
Construction Phase
Construction was approached with a focus on protecting and preserving the home’s original fabric. Work was staged to allow careful integration of new components without compromising the heritage structure.
Special care was taken with cladding, detailing, and the interface between the original home and new garage structure. The internal lift installation and deck additions were coordinated closely with heritage consultants to maintain consistency in scale, materials, and finish.
Despite the complexity of working within a heritage framework, the build progressed steadily with attention to detail across all phases.
Completed
The completed works have successfully blended modern convenience with the timeless character of this heritage home. The new triple garage, lift, and outdoor living spaces have been integrated seamlessly, adding functionality without detracting from the original charm.
Materials and detailing were carefully matched to maintain the home’s historic integrity, with the new additions reading as thoughtful extensions rather than distractions. The result is a home that feels complete, elevated, and ready for many more years of life—modernised where it matters, and respectfully preserved where it counts.
