Lodging a consent online? The first step is the only hard part.
For most people, the first encounter with a council's online consent system is a bit daunting. Unfamiliar screens, unfamiliar terms, a nagging feeling you might be doing it wrong. That first login and first application, usually through Simpli, the shared portal most Greater Wellington region councils use, is normally the part that feels hardest. Once that's done, everything after tends to fall into place.
From there, the portal starts working for you. Appointments and inspections can be managed directly online, no more playing phone tag with council to find a time that suits. You can add a note for the inspector before they arrive, flagging a tricky driveway, a locked gate, or a dog that needs to be secured first. Small details, but they’re the difference between a smooth visit and a wasted trip for everyone.
Not every Wellington region project runs through Simpli. Porirua uses a different system, Datascape, built by a different provider but doing much the same job: an online portal for lodging and tracking a consent from your own account. Whichever one your project falls under, the underlying idea is the same. It’s mostly a matter of getting comfortable with whichever screen happens to be in front of you.
